Virginia was a gracious woman and we are here to honor her legacy!
Virginia Clay, (nee Moore), was born October 6, 1929 and departed this life May 28, 2023.
Virginia was born to Eddie Bell and Fenton Moore in Fort Benning, Georgia. At a young age,
her family moved to Chicago, Illinois.When working as an elevator operator downtown, she met
and married her CTA bus driver, Edward C.Clay, and produced two daughters, Joyce Anne and
Eunice Carlette.
Virginia’s main job was being a loving wife and mother. Anyone who met her knew she was
vibrant, strong, witty, fun-loving, glamorous, smart, insightful and caring. For forty plus years,
Virginia was a top salesperson for Avon Corporation, winning awards and recognition for her
outstanding sales achievements. If you ever had the pleasure of visiting her home, she either
gifted you with Avon products,talked you into putting in an order or both. In addition,Virginia was
a Market Researcher, working from home before it was popular. She worked on various
research projects, one that landed her a national radio commercial for Trident Chewing Gum! In
addition, Virginia was a devout Catholic who loved the Lord and was a longtime member of St.
Clotilde Catholic Church. She was that parent who volunteered at her daughters’ schools (much
to their dismay), as well as volunteering for numerous community organizations.
Virginia was called by many names: Mom, Grandma, Jenny, Mama Jenny, TT, Jenny Cakes,
Ginger, Ginger Snap, Miz Clay. Whoever she was to you, she cared about everyone sincerely
and went out of her way to make everyone feel welcome. Virginia deeply loved her husband,
daughters and grandchildren, dedicating her life to ensuring their happiness and well being.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; daughter, Joyce Anne; mother, Eddie Bell
Nolan; father, Fenton Moore; sister, Charlie Bell Sargent; brother, James Howard Moore;
granddaughter, Dianna Rhodes and sons-in-law, Samuel Rhodes Jr and Walter Willis.
She is survived by her daughter, Eunice Clay Rhodes, grand-children, Olivia Willis and Walter
Willis. great-grandchildren, Andrew Appling and Asia Curtis, great-great grandchildren, Andrew
Jr. and Adrian Appling. In addition to loving family and friends, she has 50+ nieces and
nephews from the Garrett\Sargent\Moore\Clay families.
We miss you. And as Ed Clay always told her: “You’re a Wonderful One!”
